Hi ***@openoffice.org.il subscribers,
Tk Open Systems released Hebrew OpenOffice 2.2 for Fedora and other RPM
technologies today, with language packs for English and Russian. See
the sidebar on http://openoffice.org.il.

We tested this version on Fedora 6.

There are two released versions, the "regular" version with an integrated
"Hspell" Hebrew spell-checking engine by Nadav HarEl and Dan Kenigsberg,
and another called "girsat milonim" that uses an embedded Hebrew
dictionary with the "hunspell" (yes, Hungarian) spell-checking engine
instead of "Hspell". Both versions work fine in Hebrew. The "Hspell"
version loads faster but the "hunspell" version offers more suggested
corrections. YMMV.

We have been delayed to some extent with the Debian release of Hebrew
OpenOffice 2.2, which will probably in fact be OOo 2.2.1. Our current plan
is to release the Debian version on July 1.

We have added a new subject to the OpenOffice.org.il forum at
http://openoffice.org.il/forum/ for bug fixes called "tikune bugim"
(úé÷åðé áàâéí). We will be posting notices of bug fixes as we fix
them under this subject from now on. We are doing this in the interests of
transparency, so that you can see what we are working on.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Yifat Ezra as the new moderator of the
forum and webmaster of OpenOffice.org.il.

Please remember the FOSS/OpenOffice conference on June 20th. See
http://foss.org.il.

Regards,

- yba

I assume the hunspell version also uses the Hspell dictionary (just
not the code), right? There's nothing "Hungrian" about Hspell's dictionary
in myspell format :-)

What does the Windows version use - also the myspell-(now hunspell-) format
Hspell dictionary?

By the way, it would be great if you added in the Web site some comment
about the specific free software license that Open Office is released under.
Please remember that Hspell (both the code, and the myspell-format dictionary)
is GPL (yes I know, legal headache :( ).

Thanks again for the release.

Nadav.

You are most welcome.

Right, the hunspell version uses a Hebrew dictionary exported from Hspell
and a stock OpenOffice.org English dictionary.

hunspell with Hspell dictionaries.

We'll get around to that soon. Keep nagging me.
Thanks again for the release.
Enjoy,
